What is something most people don't know about Golden Quill Designs?

I am also obsessed with cooking and especially baking. I love entertaining and welcoming people into my home. One of the best parts about entertaining is getting to try out fun, new recipes on guests! Right now I'm really excited about my pumpkin spice cookies that I make every year in the Fall, but recently I just made these sea salt chocolate chip cookies from scratch that were to die for! I have a food blog where I keep track of all my favorite recipes called "Mrs. Blaser's Kitchen" if you're ever looking for dinner, entertaining ideas and/or dessert recipes!

Any advice for someone looking to start their own business?

Just do it! There's no perfect time to start or best way to go about it. Don't feel like you have to have everything in place with a perfect website and a million followers on Instagram to start. Don't be overwhelmed by the things you don't know (like who honestly knew how to have a proper balance sheet when they first started?!) but you got it. Starting your own company is so rewarding and one of the great parts about it is that you become an expert in things you'd never imagine you would learn!

What Boston-area maker(s) do you admire?

I really admire Liz Roessler from Lettering by Liz as she has been so warm and welcoming to me as a maker in Boston and also as a mentor. She is so connected in the roots of this city and I really admire her love and passion for her calligraphy company. She has been so generous to me through referring business and teaching classes together that I feel very blessed to have met her!

What drives your motivation in the grind of the day to day?

What drives my motivation in the grind of the day to day is knowing that I'm making something that is a complete output of my personality in paints, paper and inks. Also what motivates me is that by creating something I am also bringing joy to others!

Why did you decide to start Golden Quill Designs?

I've had a creative passion my whole life and grew up painting, crafting, jewelry making, pottery - you name it! Even when I was little I wanted to start a card company because I had so much fun making cards for family members for all of the different holidays and occasions (my dad has kept every single one so has a pretty big stash now!). What pushed me over the edge was when I learned calligraphy about two years ago and immediately fell in love with it . When I realized I could combine my life long love of watercolor painting with my new found love of calligraphy to make cards, I was sold!  It brings me so much joy to make things for other people and my main goal is to brighten someone's day with a beautiful card. I finally had free time on my hands when I moved from NYC to Boston with my husband a year ago and so I took the plunge and have never looked back sense!

What's your favorite restaurant in Boston?

I obviously can't narrow it down to 1 or even 5 so here's a handful :) Island Creek Oyster, Sarma, Oleana, Cafe Sushi, Select Oyster Bar, Alden & Harlow - and I only scratched the surface!
